Hi ladies

Am 48 years old stage 1 breast cancer patient. I had my mastectomy and reconstruction using implant over two weeks ago. My recovery has been bumpy as mg drain stopped working and I had a fall at home. I was readmitted to the hospital for 4 days and had blood transfusion due to low hemoglobin levels. My drain was removed and I was sent home. Since then the implant site is extremely swollen. The lymph nodes were taken out hence right arm feels numb and painful. I went to see the surgeon and he said there is seroma buildup but he wouldn’t take it out just yet. I am on antibiotics too. I had a nipple sparing surgery and was told that some crusting will take place, which did but I felt as though my skin and nipple were falling out.
I am dead worried as my breast is nearly double the size of the other one and I can’t see it since the doctor put a skin color soft gauge on it.

I was also advised not to wear the soft bra as he thought it was tight.

i am worried as I sometimes I feel strong sensations like pins in my breast and at times it’s painful.i am taking ibuprofen as doctor said it would with inflammation.

I feel awful as the breast is so swollen and my remission to the hospital has pushed back recovery. Has anyone had similar surgery and experience. I would love to hear and get some support.

  • Hi

I am sorry you are going through this. I don’t have the experience you are looking for as I haven’t had a mastectomy. I am one of the Community Champions on the breast cancer forums, and wanted suggest you put a post onto our main Breast cancer forum . It’s a lot busier than this forum and I think you will receive more replies from people who have had similar surgeries and issues there. I hope it settles down for you.
