Hi there - I’m 29 and was diagnosed 2 months ago with TNBC. I have 24 weeks of treatment - 12x weekly paclitaxel and carbo and then 12 weeks of 3 weekly EC. I’ll then have surgery and radio. I’m currently 5 sessions into the pacli, already had 2 delays though due to liver function tests and temp spikes which I found really scary at the time - I wasn’t expecting to have to contend with delays too!

I’m cold capping and I’d love to speak to people about how they found it, as I mentioned I’m now 7 weeks into treatment and my hair is definitely shedding but I’d like to know if others found this happened too even if the cold cap was still successful.

I also wanted to add that I live with my boyfriend and he’s been finding this so hard with having to work like normal and have people in and out of the house all the time, I wondered if anyone has similar experiences with their partner and can offer any advice. A lot of what I’ve seen online is aimed at people a fair bit older - one of the leaflets suggested he consider early retirement!!

Happy to chat to anyone!

  • Hi, I had paclitaxel and ec in 23/24. I had 8 rounds over 4 months. I went with the cold cap as I felt it was worth giving it a go. But after the first couple of rounds my hair was really dropping massively so I saw my hair dresser to really clip it off short. By round 7 I had to stop as I had two large bald patches, my chemo nurse felt it would do too much damage to my skin to continue. So I did round 7 and 8 without the cold cap. Whilst I still lost my hair, I never went entirely bald but virtually. My regrowth was fairly quick and came through quite thick. I do wonder if although I lost my hair if it helped my follicles a little when it came to regrowth. I looked at losing my hair as shedding all of the past and the regrowth was my new, fresh, healthy chapter x

  • Hello lovely no advice on the cold cap sorry I personally didn't bother iv been having a lot of wig fun though.  My husband also struggled having to leave me as we don't have a large family so have had to do it on our own really with having kids too how ever my husbands work was very understanding if your boyfriend was to  maybe explain the circumstances for example on my worst days after chemo he started work later so couod get our kids ready for school and had 2 weeks off after my surgery things like that, its a situation that no one has asked for reach out see how they are its a difficult one for you both sending you hugs and I hope your treatment goes as smoothly as possible from now on and no more delays x

  • Hey

I'm 47 now and was diagnosed with TNBC last year at 46 and although I'm technically classed as young in the world of breast cancer (I get called young lady at appointments!), I can imagine the whole thing would be a very different experience if I was your age.

I know it's been a couple of weeks since you posted and you may have found this yourself already but I just wanted to point you to Breast Cancer Now's Younger Women Together support network and their forum where they have a specific category for younger women to connect. Links are below.

I hope you find this useful and wish you all the very best with your treatment. x
