Hi all. My cousin (aged 37) has just been diagnosed with the above. 2 tumours in left breast with affected lymph nodes. They have done MRI chest and CT body and MRI has revealed an 11mm tumour in right breast which they want to do USS on. They are still awaiting CT scan. She has 2 young children at home and is understandably terrified. Just wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation and has positive stories/outcomes I can share with her to try and keep the PMA.
I lost my mam to secondary beast cancer almost 2 years ago now and so I really want to be able to support my cousin through this but I am terrified too.
My dear. I have been diagnosed with pretty much the same thing about 8 months ago and Just finished Chemotherapy. I have had mastectomy on my right side and 20lymphnodes removed out of which 10 were positive.
I think the best way to go about it all is to stay really positive. It makes such a difference. Many women survive decades after Diagnosis. My tips are, go through the motions, the doctors know how to cure you. Keep your normal life going and lean on the support of your loved ones. It made all the difference to me. I am trying to exercise all the way through treatment, only listen to positive uplifting things about God and life and one more tip if you like. Check out Bruno Groening and the circle of Friends. It's all about healing. All my love. I also only eat organic vegetables now. And drink lots of water.
Thank you. My mam was BRCA 2 +ve and so I was tested but am negative. I’m going to speak to genetics centre and see if they will test her given she is maternal cousin so wonder if she too is carrying it. I am trying to stay positive and I never show her my worry but having been through it 3 times with my mam it is frightening. That and I feel a guilt that it’s her who is going through this. Great advice for me to pass on though thank you
Hello,
I was diagnosed with the same type of breast cancer last February (at age 34). There have been a lot of ups and downs — it’s impossible to stay positive all the time. I completely understand all the worries.
What really helped me was trusting and listening to my doctors and nurses — they’ve been an incredible support. I also started psychotherapy, which I believe made a big difference. And I always watched comedy shows I used to love — they brought me comfort.
I’m sure she’ll be okay with your support.
Thank you very much for your response. Have you completed your treatment now? Also, if you don’t mind me asking what was the treatment plan? She has USS tomorrow on right breast then I’m hopeful they pull a plan together quickly as she is desperate to start treatment. Especially with them finding it in another breast, she feels like it’s growing all the time.
My journey started with freezing my eggs, as I don’t have children. When I was offered the option to preserve them, I didn’t want to miss the chance to become a mom.
I had a few tests and investigations. It’s perfectly normal if they ask her to do a MRI or USS and then another ultrasound — they just want to make sure she receives the most accurate treatment. Please try to be patient.
I underwent a lumpectomy. Initially, I was told I would have radiotherapy before surgery, but after the operation, they decided to go for chemotherapy instead, followed by another surgery. After the second surgery, they will decide whether I need radiotherapy or not.
What I’m trying to say is: this journey is definitely not a straight line. It’s a roller coaster with lots of ups and downs. You can start over, when you think it would end. It helped me to be ready the worst as well as the best
I hope you and your cousin very best luck
Your poor cousin, it sounds like your family have really been through it. I was diagnosed with exactly the same in June this year. My breast lump was 4.1cm and my lymph nodes looked clear - but after surgery (in which they removed 3), one lymph node was positive. As my tumor was 4cm and grade 3 I was always told I would need chemo. I needed a second surgery in July as they didn't get clear margins. I started chemo in September and I have had 3 out of 6 infusions so far. I was terrified of chemo but so far didn't need to be - I have been fine with very minimal side effects. I have radiotherapy when chemo is done and then they are going to start hormone blockers and targeted therapy and bone infusions too - all to help reduce the risk of reoccurance. She will get good treatment and is in good hands. My advice is to do research yourself too as my team haven't always been that forth coming with detail and I really like to know the ins and outs.
Hi lovely, I'm a 31 year old mother of 3, recived my diagnosis September this year. I found one lump in my right breast but scans showed three large masses in the right breast and 4 reactive lymphnodes. My doctors have gone for the plan of chemotherapy first and then surgery which will be followed by radiation. The Chemotherapy im on is called EC-T. Ive been having EC evey two weeks since the end of September and just finished my 4th and final round of that, I will be starting the T portion of the chemotherapy in less than two weeks. I imagine your cousin might be offered a similar if not the same form of treatment. Its going to be a hard and sometimes scary process for both of you, be there for eachother as much as possible and I wish your cousin all the best.
