Hi there, New here.
I was diagnosed with "precancer" in on 22nd November 2024 All options explained. Reconstruction was discussed and was told I had the luxury of time.
On 10th Feb 25, I had a mastectomy, no lymph nodes sampled (agreed with consultant due to lymphoedema risk)
On 11th March, results showed this was actually grade 3 and invasive. Oestrogen positive. Now they want to sample lymph nodes.
On 24 March -- lymph nodes sampling -- THAT WAS QUICK!
On 8th April -- Results show 1 out of 4 lymph nodes has cancer. Recommended oncology referral for likely hormone suppressant and chemo +/- radiotherapy +/- more surgery.
Was Told 12 week wait to see oncologist. This just seems far too long but is this normal ?-- the worst thing is there is no treatment while I am waiting. If they put me on hormone suppressant while I am waiting I could understand. What wait have others had in this kind of situation?
Hi Notdeadyet
I was diagnosed with grade 3 triple negative breast cancer in March 2022 and had surgery the following month with 2 sentinel lymph nodes removed. Of these two, one had micro deposits of cancer cells so I was told that the next step would be to see an oncologist.
Originally it would have been a wait of at least a month but I got a phone call offering me a cancellation, so I actually saw the oncologist about two weeks later. My chemotherapy then started roughly 10 weeks after my surgery.
Maybe you could ask your breast cancer nurse to put you on a cancellation list for the oncologist if you're able to go at a moments notice.
Hi Latchbrook, Thanks for the feedback. 1 month seems a lot more reasonable to me but I just don't know what the norm is...
Your best bet would probably be to ask your BCNS what the normal wait time is. I don't know if my wait time was normal or not, I was just happy to get a quick appointment.
I know they like you to be completely healed from surgery before you start chemotherapy but again I don't know what the normal recovery period is for a mastectomy. My surgery was a lumpectomy so I assume that 10 weeks from surgery to start of chemotherapy is considered okay.
