Hi again, ive met with my oncologist today and it’s all become very daunting now how the new year will look.
A superficial concern but a very real one- hair.
How is everyone’s experience with the cold cap? I understand it’s uncomfortable and I’m fully prepared for that.
Are there any success stories? If it didn’t work for you, why didn’t it work?
TIA just trying to be mentally prepared xxx
Hi, I’m so sorry I’ve only just seen your message.
i had my final EC (4/4) on Friday and start 1/4 of paclitaxel next Friday.
I went into the cold cap knowing that I would probably lose approximately 70% of my hair but I was willing to go with it as I’m able to tolerate the CC. I would say for the first two rounds I lost hair definitely, but not masses. After that Ive had a fairly heavy loss when brushing (I’ve been so careful). However, I had tons of hair to start with so I’m still hanging in there! I have dark hair, I have a TINY amount of hair I can tie into a dark, silk scrunchie which gives the impression of a ponytail. I’m starting to get some bald patches on the top of my head by my hairline near my face, but nothing a black yoga band doesn’t cover. I certainly don’t look like a ‘chemo patient’ as I have enough hair to conceal anything that needs covering. I think at best I just look like I need a really good hair wash, cut and colour!
What the paclitaxel brings I don’t know, but I’m pretty pleased really with my CC results so far. I had anticipated potentially being as bald as my husband by now.
But…. don’t forget everyone’s experience with this is completely different. You maybe one of the lucky ones who lose very little hair, but if not you know you’ve done all you can.
The way I’m looking at it is this….. if I lose all my hair, with all the hair that goes along with it goes all the that I’ve been through upto this point. What comes back is fresh, healthy, new regrowth…. xxxx
