So worried I may have breast cancer

Hi everyone,

I’m about to be 49, I a solo mum of a 9 year old. And over the past two years or so I’ve had weird back pain which I just put down to bad posture as I work from home.

Ove the last year I’ve had on and off weird breast pain, because it would go away sometime for a few months I left it

But over the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed that one of my breasts is much bigger than the other and sort of higher up. The top of my breast feels harder that the rest.

I have breast implants which are 20 years old, so I don’t know if it’s something to do with that.

When I lay down my breast feel a lot heavier and strange.

I went to the gp yesterday who has put me on the 2 week cancer pathway for a mammogram.

I’m petrified as I have just been made redundant as well. The settlement is fairly good but won’t cover me if I do have cancer.

I’ve looked up all kinds of different cancers and scared the living daylights out of myself.

My GP hasnt ruled  anything out but because my implants are over 20 years old it might be due to that.

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it as helpful as I do.

Glad you have been to your GP and I hope whatever it happening you get to find out before too long. The not knowing is perhaps the worst of all though it can take some time to work out what is or is not happening.

As you have discovered there are lots of very worrying stories out there, it does seem people like sharing horror stories rather more than they talk about successes so while looking things up can be helpful it is useful to limit things to a few trusted sites like Macmillan and Cancer Support uk where we know the information is well checked out.

We do have a page that might be useful to you on cancer tests and waiting for results here.

    <<hugs>>
