Hi everyone. I am waiting on biopsy results that the doctors are pretty confident is cancer. I had samples taken from a left breast lump I discovered a few months ago and some underarm. I am also a type 1 diabetic which adds to all my worries especially during a pandemic! I am a mum to two little boys ages 1 and 3 which is the main reason I have to stay strong and get through this and 39 years old.I am working myself up into such a state thinking all the worst possible thoughts and any coping advice/strategies and positivity will be much appreciated.
Hi C.J welcome to the forum and sorry to hear what has been happening for you and how worried that you are right now.
Like most of us at this point in time you are 100 miles in front and have convinced yourself of the worst case scenario which could yet turn out not to be Cancer. However.I do understand that all the thoughts are pointing to that but it could yet prove not to be.
Doctors can predict, but not always accurately, whether something is Cancer or not until the biopsy comes back . This time waiting for you is the pits and the only thing to do is to keep busy and occupied and with 2 young boys Im sure keeping busy it will not be difficult to keep busy and occupied.
When you have all the biopsy results you will then know what is happening for definite and know then what if anything there is to deal with. PLeasE Please Please STAY OFF GOOGLE it is unreliable and not individualised enough and will most likely scare you when this may not be necessary.
Big Deep Breathes, keep busy and off Google and please keep in touch and let us know how you get on as you are not alone in this and we are here to support you as much as we can and as much as you want us too.
This time is not easy for you so its ok to feel a bit overwhelmed and that's normal I promise you.
Meantime I'm sending some huge big hugs your way for now. xxxx
I got my diagnosis yesterday and it is stage 2 breast cancer. The Dr was very positive about everything and I will be going for my surgery within the next two weeks. It was a very strange feeling to be somewhat relieved with the diagnosis as I had the absolute worst thoughts in my head for a week and now have some hope back after finding its treatable. I am still upset but feel much better that there is a plan and everything will happen quickly. Having two very small children will be a challenge. How did everyone find the recovery after surgery? When could you lift and hug your children properly again?
I also found it so much easier once I had a diagnosis - for me the uncertainty is the hardest bit of the whole thing.
What surgery are you having? I was tender after my lumpectomy but found the armpit sentinel node clearance took longer to recover from. Overall I was out and about a few days after the surgery but I can't remember when I tried picking up my nephews.
Hi CJ,
Re. Hugs and lifting children. Hugs are possible pretty much right after surgery, avoiding the surgery side. I’m almost 2 weeks post-op and although the underarm area is still quite sore and soft tissue in that area is tender, hugging hasn’t been a problem. It will be harder for your little ones to understand and not wriggle too much against Mummy, but If someone sets them up for you, you should be able to have them snuggle close on the non-surgery side for hugs and stories.
Mine are too big to lift but on the non-surgery side I’ve been able to lift a few kilos since days after surgery. On the surgery side I’m not lifting anything heavy yet.

Hi C.J
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
I got diagnosed with my Breast Cancer in October at the age of 32.
I have 2 young children (6 and 1).
I have had 7 rounds of chemo and i am 1 week post op. I had a lumpectomy and some lymph nodes taken out.
I am waiting on results from my op now.
My Breast area is still slightly uncomfortable but mot as bad as I thought. My underarm however is slightly more sore.
My 6 year old underatands but my 1 year old doesn't. He has been very upset as I am unable to hold him. What i do is sit down and get my hubby to sit him on my lap on the opposite side for a cuddle. Mkst the times he is quite good but the odd time he gets excited and hugs me from the front which does hurt abit still.
I am resting lots still and my 6 year old helps me with my exercises. She finds it fun and its a nice way to get her involved.
Next atep is start tamoxafin and 4 weeks of Radiotherapy.
Sending you lots of virtual hugs and hope your surgery goes well x
