Hi - I am new to this group. I had a lumpectomy ten days ago and went to buy a bra last week. A friend said I wouldn't be charged for the VAT but the guy in the shop thought I was making it up when I asked him at the till. It made a difficult experience even worse. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice on where I should and where shouldn't I shop?

    Hi

Pocketed post surgery bras and swimwear are vat free so the price shouldn't even include vat in the first place - unfortunately some shops automatically place vat on the ticket.

You certainly shouldn't be placed in a situation at the checkout justifying you have had breast surgery and the guy in the shop needs retraining by their boss so do make a complaint Thumbsup tone1

If you did pay vat you can claim this back but it shouldn't have to be this way Disappointed

Asda have a very good range of post surgery bras, swimwear etc that are vat free and low priced but most are only available online.

Hope this is of some help, G n' J

    thank you.

Have other people had the same experience?

  • Hi

I bought specific post surgery bras at Marks and Spencer. I didn’t even know about the VAT thing, until the lady on the checkout whispered to me so nobody in the queue behind me could hear about it. I just had to fill in my name and sign on a card that was attached to the bras and got £10 off 3 bras.

  • Hi Luckyme13,

Its taken several purchases for me to finally be happy with my bra’s and swimwear. I have bought them from Debenhams,NicolaJane,Asda, bespoke underwear shop in local town and finally M &S.

Conclusion from my findings is best experience and not too expensive, quality as well is   M &S and my local store have staff to help you with a fitting.

    Good luck with it
