Hi there,

has anyone cold capped? I have for first session but have a fair bit of hair come out on day 20! Is this normal? Will it possibly stop for a bit?

    Hi

You may want to post this question into the more active breast group as well to increase your replies but as far as I know even those who 'cold cap' can get up to 40% hairloss.Day 20 is just about on the button for hairloss to start.

You are right in thinking it comes out worse first then slows but a lot of this shedding depends on how good a fit the cap is, as it has to be a snug/tight fit to the scalp all around - If you get any voids hairloss can be patchy.

J didn't cold cap but loads of ladies in the main breast group have who could give you more experienced answers.

Hope this is of some help for now, G n' J

  • Hi , I finished 4 cycles of EC on 17th December. I used the cold cap . I found that I lost hair every cycle but probably lost the most about 10 days after my second cycle. I still had a fair bit hair at the end of my chemo but it was the thinnest at the crown. What I didn’t know was that you really should look after the hair in between cold capping , my problem now is that the hair that hung on in tere has mostly snapped off leaving about 2 inches from the scalp. I’m sporting a rather fetching straggly mullet FlushedI think that although the cold saves the follicle it can cause trauma to the hair itself making it very dry and brittle. I’m still happy that I did it because I couldn’t have coped with going bald and I can still put a clip in it and hide the fact that it’s fallen out. But my tip would be. Don’t wash and dry your hair too much, but put a hair mask or treatment on in between cycles , don’t use hairdryers with heat and don’t use straighteners .

    good luck with your treatment
