Hi

I'm 47 and was diagnosed with bc mid November. Came as a bit of a shock as only went to the doctors with an infected cyst. Thankfully she sent me for a mammogram had she not I hate to think what the outcome would of been. So weirdly I feel lucky it was found by chance. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on the 10th dec , her2 neg , hormone positive. Stage 2.

The op went really well , I was nervous about looking at my scar's for the first time but the way I looked at it was this op saved my life. Once I plucked up the courage i was pleasantly surprised. I was very disciplined in following the recommended exercises given and really pushed myself . I went back last week for my op results and the nurse was really impressed with my movement.

Hmm the results , well the lumpectomy went well the lump was removed and my margins all clear. However the node biopsy found traces of cancer in both nodes that was removed. I was given the choice of a full node clearance which I've taken. Followed by 6 rounds of chemo over 4 months , must admit this news knocked the wind out my sails. I've now processed the news and have been researching ( only using reputable websites ) side effects etc not looking forward to chemo but I wish I could start it now. I'm ready to fight this all the way. I'm going to try the cold cap but just incase I've already purchased a wig , its loud and bold. Hopefully I wont need to wear it. Anyway this is my story so far sorry it's a long one.

  • Hi

I see you've been having chats in the under 50's group and have had replies/replying.

You may want to also join the main breast cancer group.  Although there might be some things that the ladies (and gents) can't help you with, it is so much busier than the under 50's group and many experiences will be the same.  If you are pre-menopause then you'll likely be on Tamoxifen for the hormone positive (ER+), if post menopause then either Letrozole or Anastrozole.  Most of the ladies in the main group will be on the Letrozole/Anastrozole, but there are still a few discussions about Tamoxifen and there's a monthly chat about Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy for ladies undergoing the treatment at the time.

You'll find a wealth of knowledge and support in both the under 50's and the main breast group.

    Kindest wishes,
