Hi I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but don’t seem to be getting very far, they think it’s stage 1 but as I’m only 36 they sent me for an mri so they could get a true measurement. I was supposed to have an appointment with my surgeon today to talk about treatment but the breast nurse rang and cancelled it. She said they found something suspicious in my other breast and needed to do an ultrasound before they decide on a treatment plan, has anyone else had this happen and what was the outcome?
Thanks
hi
yes
don't panic
easy for me to say I know but panicking doesn't solve anything
I can see you have posted in the main breast group, I'll have a quick look and see what responses you got there.
Initially the mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies give a good picture of what's going on, the MRI gives a slightly different view to confirm but it's not until they actually surgically remove the suspicious areas they really know what they're dealing with
If you're going to face surgery you may as well deal with all of it in one go.
Hospitals are generally poor at communicating
I was told I'd have my results on the Friday following my breast screening but then a nurse called me and said I'd been given a results appointment in the Primrose wing, the cancer unit, at our local hospital, so I asked what the results showed and the nurse said I can't tell you over the phone.
So I said well why do I need an appointment in the cancer unit if it's not cancer, she said she was sorry.
Then she called back and said she'd moved the appointment to the out patients unit for a day earlier
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, it was farcical.
As it turned out, at that point I 'only' had DCIS and would 'only' need a mastectomy.
The news was delivered with beaming smiles. It was very weird indeed .
The cherry on the top was when the nurse called with the MRI results and got her lefts and rights completely mixed up.
Getting the treatment plan right is the most important thing.
It's a strain on our nerves whilst they sort themselves out though
bug hugs

Hi
i was diagnosed September 2018. I also had mri and the day afterwards the consultant called me and asked me to go straight to the hospital as the mri had shown other suspicious areas. I nearly lost the plot - full on panic attacks the works. Got to the hospital for an ultrasound and a biopsy was taken and i was told it was highly suspicious and therefore my lumpectomy which was booked for 2 days time was cancelled and they started talking mastectomy. Went for my results 3 days later to be told it was a harmless fibroadenona. Lumpectomy rebooked for the next day. My consultant told me that it is fairly common for an mri to show false positive results.
The stress of it all - i really understand how you feel.
take care x
