Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer Recurrence, same place as my first. Gutted and what to get on with treatment but I don’t know what this is. Does anyone know what the latest treatment, standard of care or trials are out there? I’ll be getting a mastectomy but I want more as I have two little children and want to be here for them growing up. I can’t find any information really and my next appointment isn’t for two weeks! Many thanks x
Im so sorry to hear about your recurrence. Are you in the TNBC group? I really don’t know much about TN.
I think the latest treatments probably depend on the hospital or area you live in.
I had a mastectomy last October. If there’s anything you want to know about that, just ask.
Two weeks is soo long to wait, I know the care team have to wait for results and discuss treatment and it does take time but the wait is just awful.
Do you have a Macmillan Unit local to you, I found them brilliant.
Thank you so much for replying! It’s so lonely feeling like the only one going through this. This might sound a little silly but does the surgeon use skin from somewhere else on your body to cover where your breast used to be?
thanks x
Hi Run4it,
There are different types of reconstruction. I had a skin sparing op, so even though all the breast tissue is gone, the skin remained so the surgeon used the original breast skin to cover the implant which in my surgeons opinion is better as it gives a more natural cleavage, but it’s not for everyone. If the reconstruction is done at a later date or the skin isn’t spared than yes they do use skin from somewhere else.
No problem Run4it. No need to feel alone here, like I’ve said before if there is anything you want to know just ask. I was going through this this time last year and didn’t know what was in store for me, but I’ve had the whole package, ops, chemo, radiotherapy and I’m on anti hormone tablets, it’s what I call the Platinum package lol.
You are stronger than you know, you will get through it a step at a time and before long you will be on the ‘Other side’ like me.
Hugs Tina x
