Does a malignant lump in the breast necesarily lead to mastectomy?

Hi M-Cee if the lump is cancerous which most are it is dependant on whether any lymph nodes are involved or how big the tumour is and where in the breast it is what the treatment plan may be.

Have they given you any idea yet of your treatment plan or are you still waiting to see what this will be?

The lump was 2.2cm located at the upper area of the breast. The doctor who removed the lump suggested another surgery to be made to check if any lymph nodes are affect and some area of the tissues from the breast where the lump was removed, and then he will do chemo for me and radiation. But a second doctor who is like a family doctor is suggesting a mastectomy considering my family history of cancer where my elder sister has already under gone mastectomy.

Some ppl can have a lumpectomy but like Granny59 said it does all depend on other things. However if Breast Cancer is in your Family History a mastectomy could be recommended. Have a chat with your oncologist about it.
