Hi Lovely Ladies,

As some of you know, I’m out the other side now, two ops last Oct and Nov, Chemo January to April, radiotherapy In June and now Letrozole.

Im feeling good, I have some Lymphoedema and aches and pains, hot flushes, sleeplessness etc but manageable.

I’m unfortunately not working now as I was doing Home Help, I was self employed and the lady I worked for died some months before I was diagnosed so I decided to take some time out.

I got to spend all the Summer Holidays last yr with my two younger children, thinking I would start looking for another job when they returned to school, unfortunately cancer had other ideas! I was diagnosed shortly after.

So now I’m wondering “What now?” I have been in my local Macmillan Unit and have a booklet which I’m looking though.

I was at the hospital recently and they are doing a chemo buddy scheme, someone who has been through chemo and someone who is about to start, this really interested me,  it obviously its not a job, however it get me thinking about maybe getting bk into education or training for Healthcare,  but I really loved my job as a home help, so I’m torn as what to do now.

I have quite a few appointments coming up in the next few months so I’m not sure if I should be starting a job then having to have appointments to attend, if that makes sense.

Thoughts?

    Hi Beachwalker19,

Fab news. As for work, do what makes you happy regardless of upcoming appointments. The right one will come along at the right time. In the meantime you could do voluntary, having the experience on a personal level would really help others. You have helped me of which I am very grateful for.

Alternatively, you could start getting organised for Christmas as its not too far away. Slight smile

Just to let you know I am having echocardiogram this morning and 1st chemo session this afternoon. Fingers crossed this is the start of my recovery.

    Xx

  • Hi ,

I Hope you are doing ok after 1st Chemo and that side effects will be kind to you. Please let me know how you are getting on.

And Thank you for saying that I’ve helped you, you have made my day. So glad that I could help.

I’m at the MacMillan Unit this Thursday so going to ask about the ‘Buddy scheme’ welcoming ppl deal with chemo.

    Thinking of you x x

    Hi beachwalker19

sorry to hear of your re-occurrence, that’s rubbish! At least you have a clear idea of how to manage things and that you have previously got to the other side and can do again!
I think being a buddy is a wonderful idea, maybe it’s come up at just the right time and these people who you can help, can help you too.
Absolutely keep looking/doing jobs. Working (for myself) kept me going through my treatment and kept my brain busy. I think you are pretty awesome to being considering helping others.

Have a super day and I’ll look out for your posts xxx

  • Hi ,

Sorry I didn’t clarify my comment very well. I don’t have reoccurrence, I would be the one helping a new chemo patient as I have been through it.
