Hello all,

Last June, it was confirmed that I have the BRCA1 gene, inherited from my mother. A few weeks after, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Following nine months of chemo, a double mastectomy and reconstruction and three weeks of radiotherapy, I am now on Tamoxifen.  Initially, I had no side effects. Now, about twelve weeks on, I have started to get persistent headaches and feel nausea. Everyday. It’s becoming pretty relentless. I just wanted to ask those of you who are on Tamoxifen, have experienced side effects and how soon they started. Thank you!!

  • Hi bish81

sorry to hear that you’re having a rough time on tamoxifen, I started talking the drug last August and had nausea during the first twelve weeks, a breast care nurse suggested taking it with breakfast (I had been taking it at night) hope this helps, take care x

  • Hi

A warm welcome to the online community. Sorry to hear you have developed these side effects. I have been on Tamoxifen for 2.5 years now and I have found that side effects have changed a bit over time. I'd make 2 suggestions in addition to the good advice from .

First of all, it might be a good idea to check in with your GP to make sure there's no other reason for the headaches and nausea. The second is to try a different brand. People quite often find that one or other brand suits them better and if your GP writes it on the prescription, most pharmacists will try to get it for you. Weirdly, everyone seems to react differently to different brands so it can be a case of trial and error until you find one that suits you.

Hope you get it sorted soon!
