I have recently discovered a lump in my breast (39) I am trying my best to stay positive but I can’t help but worry.....my family is still coming to terms with losing my Mum (60) last year to Triple Negative Breast cancer.

I keep thinking of how it would effect them all if it turns out bad for me.....that is killing me (probs not the right thing to say!!!)

As I said I’m trying not to stress about it too much & I am keeping it to myself just now as we have a big family holiday in a few weeks, I was at the doctors yesterday & she said it’s roughly 3cm in size, god love her she was trying to reassure me.

She is going to try her best to fast track an appointment for me, hopefully before we go away!

My Mum was diagnosed 4 years ago to practically the day & also a matter of weeks before a family holiday.

  • Hi Shella80 welcome to the forum and so very sorry to hear about what is happening for you right now.

I can imagine that your head will be all over the place right now. I cant tell you what to do but all I WIll say to you is keeping this news to yourself will take its toll on you physically and mentally over the next few days/weeks whilst waiting for an appointment. People around you will want to support you and be there for you and yes they will be shocked the same as you but its always good to have someone to talk with, shout at, or just have a good cry with when it all gets too much.

This will be made worse for you by the fact that you lost your mum to breast cancer but again what I want to say to you is that we are all different and this could yet be something totally unrelated and could be totally harmless.I do understnd though why you are worried I think we all feel like that but you have done exactly the right thing seeing your GP who has referred you to the breast clinic and thats where the expertise you need is located. The appointment should come through in the next 2 weeks they are usually very quick.

There are many similarities by the sound of it in what happened to your mum and what is happening for you right now but again I want to reassure you that you are NOT your mum and you are a unique individual who may yet be found to have  a harmless cyst and then we party with you.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing and please do let us know how you get on as we will be thinking of you and meantime Im sending some huge big hugs your way for now. xxxxxxx

    Hello

Sorry to hear you lost your mum to TNBC, i was 47 when i was diagnosed a year ago last week and now have the all clear and returned to work.

If it is the same where you live as here then you will be seen within 2 weeks, my daughter was referred from our doctor last year and had an appointment, scan and was told it was nothing to worry about in 10 days.

Has the doctor told you what the lump is? pleased don't automatically think it is bad news, not all lumps are cancer, as i said before my daughter had a lump last year and it turned out to be nothing to worry about.

So in the mean time, try to keep positive (easier said than done) and keep coming and talking to us.

Please let us know how you get on, fingers tightly crossed for you xx
