Implant feelings

I had a masectomy end Feb this year and a reconstruction using implant. The actual work looks great it is fairly small and neat and tidy. My problem with it is still fairly firm and i still have not been able to go back to my old sleeping position as its uncomfortable to lie on. Is this the norm for implants or should it soften slightly over time. I am due to have the other one done  later in the year but if it is to feel this abnormal im not sure I'll bother.

Anyone have implants and able to tell me how they feel once they have settled.

Thank you

  • Hi ,

I had my surgery last end of Oct, I can lie on that side now, although I do have Lymphoedema in that area most of the time. I probably didn’t attempt it for at least 4 months.

Im not really sure about the firmness, as mine is firmer compared to my non implant boob. Can you press on it to make like a dint in it or is it too hard to do that?

Maybe speak to your breast nurse, I literally have my breast nurse on speed dial lol.

    Best wishes x

Thx yeh if i press it makes a dent it just feels weird (fake) which it is obviously but will it feel less fake I guess I want to know. As it is at moment i dont want the other one feeling like that.

The therapist that does my reflexology and lymphedema (she's felt a few fake ones) thinks it should still soften a bit and what she keeps saying fluff up no idea what that is.

Hello i can't really help with a reconstruction from an implant as i had one using my back muscle.

I see has given you brill advice especially about ringing your breast care nurse.

If you don't get much response in here may be trying posting the same in the Breast Cancer Group as there may be more people in there able to help answer your question.

  • Hey...I had an implant for about 3 months before it had to be removed due to an infection. It never really felt great....looked fabulous but never really felt part of me. To be honest I was pleased to have it removed. I am happier flat and if possible would get my other breast removed...very personal I know.

I am afraid I didn’t have it long enough to see if it became softer or felt better....one thing i would say in an implant’s defence...it’s a lot easier to buy summer clothes etc when you have a cleavage!!

  • Hi ,

I suppose mine is reasonably soft, it feels ok.

I was going to say do you think you might have Lymphoedema. Because I had node clearance I have Lymphoedema and my breast sort of fills and feels firmer when this occurs.

I want my breast nurse to refer me to a Lymphoedema nurse.

I’m sure if you speak to your care team they will be able to reassure you.

Omg you dont know how nice it is to hear someone say theirs is soft at least i know its potentially possible. I have contacted my breast care team hopefully they can enlighten me.
