Hi all I'm here just looking for some advice.
I went to my gp on Monday as I've been having an contionous pain in my left breast and under my arm and blood stained discharge from my nipple. The gp examined my breast and said he could also feel a lump to so referred me for an urgent appointment at the breast clinic. The wait is horrific even though its only been a few days. What is the experience at the clinic like? I've read the wait for younger patients (i am 28) is longer is this true do you know?
Thank you
Hi Emma,
firstly thank you for sharing your story so far and for looking for support.
sometimes it’s too easy to hide away and deny what’s happening but I have everything crossed for you that you get a great result and that this turns out to be something simple for you.
In the uk there is a service level that anything potentially cancer related is checked within 3 weeks and that’s irrelevant if age so no, you should be be waiting any longer because of your age. It was approx 10 days for me from being referred by my gp to my hospital appointment.
Inknow it’s harder said than done but do try to stay positive and not to panic, you’re in the system now and therefore the best place to be looked after.
Keep us posted x
Hi Emma,
Totally agree with Amy, I’m in the Northwest and waiting time here is 2 weeks from GP referral to Breast Clinic, I was seen in that time, it is horrendous waiting, it’s a limbo, however it’s a means to getting the correct diagnosis and then if needed a treatment plan.
The waiting is really the worse part. Hopefully you will get a good outcome. My clinic experience was Mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy of my lump and nodes. The nurse was introduced to me as my breast care nurse and I was given her number to call her if I needed anything. The dr was wonderful and patient and explained what he thought it was and told me he would discuss everything with me further, once the results were available. Then more waiting I’m afraid .
We are all here to support you. Please let us know how you get on and I know it’s difficult but try not to worry and keep busy.
Hugs Tina x x
Hi,
First came onto Macmillan as I had a cancer that could go to myeloma.
I had breast cancer under 50 years old, that was just over 22 years ago.
At the time I found a lump in my right breast on the Wednesday, saw GP next day.
At that time we had a one stop clinic at the hospital, so early the following Monday I saw a specialist for a needle aspiration into the lump.
My daughters & myself went into local time, the returned about 2pm for results. It was cancer so within 2 weeks I was in for a lumpectomy & nodes taken out.
It was a grade 3 but as not into lymph nodes only had radiotherapy 20 sessions starting about 5 weeks after operation.
It is dreadful that treatment seems to have gone backwards instead of progressing!
never give up hope.
