Hello everyone, well it looks like I'll be starting chemo next week; 8 session of EC-T. I've got my induction meeting on Saturday, what else would you want to do at the weekend!!
Questions:
What do I really need to know about chemo?
What advice/tips can you give me to get through?
Thanks x
the meeting was really useful. My nurse was excellent, clearly knows her stuff but very considerate in how she spoke. There was meant to be 6 of us but we had a no show. We all sat together and had coffee and biscuits and she ran through a PowerPoint. It covered the danger signs, how to look after yourself, who to call and what to expect when you go in for treatment. We then had a 10 min 1:1 consultation to discuss your personal treatment and ask questions.
I've just got back from my first cycle and it all went smoothly. Cold cap wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected. It squashes your face a bit and it's not easy to eat whilst wearing it but it's manageable xx
Thank you!
Hope it carries on ok for you...and mine goes just as smoothly! Xx
Just wondering how you are both doing and after your first chemo’s, side effects etc.
Gentle hugs Tina x x
Hi there Beachwalker19 so kind of you to ask. First few days have been fine, I've felt really good. Slumped a bit today. Feeling quite tired now. All in all so far so good xx
No Problem. So glad you have been well. We have to learn to listen to our bodies and rest when we need too x x
Thanks you Beachwalker19...
unfortunately mine wasn’t my actual first chemo.. just the first with oncologist. He was really good, gave me loads of info.. but he couldn’t give me an actual start date. It’s really got to me today that I still don’t know when I’ll be starting.. even he gave me a date in 2months time at least I’d know!
(Feeling worse as I was mean to be in Mexico this week with friends who’ve still gone... ) the first week I’ve actually felt really down about this whole thing.
Aw that’s a shame, did they say you couldn’t travel or did you decide not to go? It might have been a nice thing to do to take your mind off things if you could have gone.
Fingers crossed you get some more info and a plan soon x
I decided not to go.. at the time I had no idea where I was going to be treatment wise.. as it is I recovered really well from op so am now back at wor... but if I hadn’t done I don’t know how well I would have traveled.. still getting tired anyway now so that plus jet lag prob not a great co,binational!
feeling a lot better anyway now as have appt for chemonurse presentation - I get told all the does and dents and who to contact etc on Monday... so it’s moving really quickly!
In that case it was probably the right decision. I was given the go ahead to have a little holiday between finishing my chemo and starting my radiotherapy which was fab. It was nice st the time to feel the sun on my face.
The tiredness is crap isn’t it? I don’t need a lot of sleep normally but I slept all the time when I was poorly.
Fingers crossed for your presentation. Let me know how you get on xx
HiAmy
i found I’ve been sleeping a lot more the last few months leading upto diagnosis... but put it down to the long hours I was working...butt had visions of being able to sleep Ona sun lounger.. waking up to swim to the pool bar for a cocktail.. that kind of thIng. To be fair.. the fiends who are over there now have been fantastic and not put loads of pics on Facebook etc rubbing my face in in etc.... which I’m so grateful for.
Im looking at booking a weekend away at some point during chemo.. just sosmwehere local ish (well in this country),, a Changan of scenery kind of break, thinking Dorset or poss Weston supermare/ Devon . Can’t do anything until I know how I’m reacting really though- a last minute.com type break!
looking forward to tomorrow .. at least I’ll know more about what’s going on, start date etc
xx
