Yes, I had my first surgical appointment today. It was very positive, I have a habit of finding humour in most things, mostly for my own sanity, and there were a few moments that made me chuckle. Although that’s the “bigger” surgery it almost feels less daunting because it doesn’t have the side effects that the gynae surgery has. There are several health risks with early menopause whereas with the breast surgery once I’m through recovery period I’m on the home straight! I’m 39, I’ll be 40 by the time I actually get the surgery X
Completely agree with you. I have only just recognized this post Oophorectomy.
Good luck with surgery! I also have this to come but so much to think about. I saw the plastic team on Wednesday- I have to see the breast surgeon next.
I’ve seen the breast surgeon, plastics next, then psychology assessment then on the list. I’m also a vaper so I have to give that up
Hi - that's very interesting re HRT and BRCA - I was told I could still take it but I would need to understand the additional risks. I'm not surprised there are women who are BRCA positive taking HRT to manage their symptoms. Out of interest what was the forum called? In my experience perimenopause before surgery (yes I've had the op) and surgical menopause seem to throw up a whole load of weird and not so wonderful symptoms most of which have subsided apart from the hot flushes which come on at all times. Re bone density I am already taking Vit D on the advice of a medical colleague but I may well ask for a scan. What sort of breast surgery are you considering? I'm not sure I can get my head around having a major operation just now. What sort of recovery time are you expecting post op?
Glad to hear it was a positive experience meeting the surgeon - it's a big step and I'm not sure how anyone really prepares themselves entirely for it. I guess we are all different and recovery times will vary etc
Sending you all good wishes x
