Apologies in advance for this lengthy post, but I want to explain the situation. My husband died 9 months ago. My son came to stay with me (with my daughter) for a few days afterwards, and he spoke beautifully at his stepdad's funeral. I live 70 miles from my children as we retired to be by the sea.

My son texted on Sunday asking 'do you want a call?' which meant a video call with my grandkids aged 7 and 5. This was my first contact from him in 4 weeks. I texted back that I.was about to get in the shower (I was colouring my hair) I assumed he'd give me half an hour then call, but 4 hours later still nothing so I texted to apologise for missing the children and asked if they were all ok. He said they were fine, and said 'how are you?' I texted that I'm doing my best to be ok. No reply. Still no reply, 4 days later.

Is this acceptable? Am I expecting too much?.I know he has a demanding job and is very involved with the children, I know his time is precious, but I'm his mum and I'm sad and alone. I feel so unwanted. I don't expect him to keep visiting, but surely five minutes to text or call? His father was like that with his mother, I had to do all the work there, so he didn't have much of a role model. He got on.so well with his stepdad, and I know he loves me, but I'm so hurt by his lack of care or concern. Do I tackle him about it, or just accept things as they are?
