I guess they have to do it, but Received a letter from DWP this morning, 3 months after my Wife passed, saying they overpaid a benefit by £280 and needed it refunded, said there may be more overpayments needing to be refunded but I would be contacted separately. Just thought all the finances were sorted, they don’t even offer to spread it out over several months, so you can never sit back and think that’s it, because another overpayment letter could pop through the letterbox.
pity they can’t write such sums off. Well it’s paid now so that’s an end to it, for now anyway.
It's really awful to have to deal with all this on top of everything, especially if it's handled that badly. I'm glad you got your money back at least! x
Hi Devin, if your wife paid into a works pension then you will be entitled to claim from it. Some companies pay less to the partner but others pay full amount ...depending on the pension. I chose to take a small lump sum on one pension, but another one pay me an amount monthly.
Contact the pension company involved and ask for some guidance.
I had to pay back a fortnight of Pip back. I couldn't be bothered to check dates to see if their calculations were correct... they invariably win.
13 month on ... I am still waiting for £600 tax back that they owe my late husband (will now be paid to me) Government departments work fast to recall overpayment but SLOW to refund.
It's weird how it goes wrong sometimes and no one knows where the error was made. Clogs in the system really. But it's good that they repaid in the end, even if they're definitely much slower doing that that asking for money!
I'll look into that pension scheme to see what can be done, thanks for your advices. :)
Dear all,
If you check on line you'll find that over payments re government pensions and other benefits re a deceased person are not enforceable in law. In other words if you ignore these demands you'll hear nothing more. I know because I ignored them myself in respect of my wife. These agencies are just trying it on.
At the end of all our journeying will be to find ourselves back where we started knowing the place for the first time. TS ELIOT.
that’s interesting as I am waiting for a demand for overpayment, I had a call to say they had overpaid but heard nothing since.
Nit heard anything from the Tax Office as I hadn’t done Robs tax for 20/21, I couldn’t do online as we had changed our address and they wanted to speak to him to change, he wasn’t in a fit state to talk to anybody let alone the Tax Office.
ih well let’s see what happens next!
