I’ve lost both parents - feeling lost

I lost my dad to prostate cancer 5 years ago and my mum to breast cancer in December 2020.

I have a supportive and loving work place and I have amazing friends.

my siblings have fallen out (well their partners have) causing fractions, one single brother has moved away and speaks to two of my siblings and ignores the rest of us.

im the youngest and I’m single, I live alone. I feel so lost and when I’m alone I keep crying I miss my mum and dad so much.

has anyone got advice on what to do? I can manage to contain my emotions at work or with friends but I’m loosing interest in most things and becoming either extremely withdrawn or I go out all partying and drinking all weekend- just feeling wither very low or throwing myself into having a good time

Hello I’m so sorry for your loss. It must be so difficult for you

have you spoken to your gp

i believe not finding pleasure in the things you used to enjoy is a symptom of depression

can I as a former Samaritans volunteer recommend that you talk to them when you’re feeling low. It can help

can you find some way of socializing that doesn’t involve alcohol

I have read that alcohol can be a depressant

you say you live alone. Have you thought of living in shared accommodation, would this be feasible

I hope you find some comfort in knowing that a stranger reached out to you

my best wishes to you xxxx

  • Thank you Kerry Ann I think it made a big difference just reaching out and speaking to someone who’s not friends or family - also had a new colleague today confide in me about a bereavement she has recently experienced- she literally said she had been handling it the same as me so the last 24 hours has given me a new perspective- thank you so much xxx

  • Thanks you Bettymail your kindness means the world xxx
