Hi Cowsrus
My name is Gemma and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
Thank you for contacting us about buying an accurate thermometer before starting chemotherapy.
Most healthcare professionals use ear thermometers (also called tympanic thermometers), they check temperature quickly and it’s easy. They give you rapid, accurate results so you can confidently take the next steps in caring for yourself or contacting a health professional if needed. You can purchase these at most pharmacies or online.
Starting chemotherapy can be daunting, we can offer advice on preparing for treatment which can help you plan also how to cope with the physical impacts of cancer and treatment.
We also have online forums where you can speak to others going through similar experiences, sometimes it can be helpful to share and read about other patient’s journeys.
Or you can call the Macmillan Support Line for free on 0808 808 00 00 as it can be easier to discuss diagnosis, treatments, or practical support in real-time with a specialist.
All the best
Gemma
