My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. She has not yet started her treatment.
this weekend i was giving her a pedicure and her nails were black and cracked. she has never had them like this before.

Hi LJL21
Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Gemma and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
Firstly, I am sorry to read that your mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer, I hope we can support you both through this challenging time.
It is normal for nails and skin to be affected whilst on treatment for cancer, however, if she has not started any treatment yet we would advise seeking help through her GP. Also, let her Breast Consultant know before starting treatment.
Your Mother may have a fungal nail infection. Your doctor and pharmacist can prescribe antifungal medications to help with the nail.
I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support
Best Wishes
Gemma
