Endometrial Hyperplasia with cystic areas

Hi,

I am a 32 year old female, I went to the GP after bleeding throughout 2022 constantly, I took no medication and then my periods just ceased from Feb 2023, the GP arranged an urgent pelvis scan. I had my pelvis scan and the sonographer asked to do a tranvaginal scan whilst I was there, I agreed. I went on my merry way, the GP called me 2 days later and explained that I have a endometrial lining of 32mm. She sent me through an urgent gynae referral, I heard nothing and that I would be added to a list, I then decided to go private.

The Dr explained that the lining was quite thick and to hurry things along did a biopsy there and then. I am currently waiting for my results, this was 2 weeks ago, I am scheduled for an urgent hysteroscopy under GA and again I am very very nervous I am having nightmares about what this could be and as much as the Dr was lovely, there was no explanation over what could be causing this or what the results may show. I still haven't got a period but a lot of post coital bleeding that another consultant has ruled out my cervix being an issue with a colposcopy.

Am I worrying for no reason, I don't want to google my symptoms as I don't know what I'm looking at?

Thanks Slight smile

  • Hi Hedgiebear

Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Ask A Nurse site. My name is Gemma and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sorry to read that you are having an unsettling time at the moment. It sounds like you and your consultant are doing all the right things.

The consultant has taken biopsies, these can take up to 2 weeks to get results.

A hysteroscopy can be done to find out why you’re having certain symptoms such as unexplained bleeding /or no bleeding at all. It is completely normal to feel anxious, let the team know how you are feeling, and they will support you throughout the procedure.

It might be useful to explore relaxation techniques, it might not make what you are stressed about go away, but it can give you a mental break from the feelings of worry you are experiencing.

There are many different causes of endometrial thickening, and you are doing the right thing to get this investigated. Try to focus on each day at a time and allow yourself to have these normal feelings. Have you got friends and family that can support you?

Sometimes it can be useful to let your GP know that you are feeling stressed at the moment, they may be able to offer further support.

You may find it helpful to call our support line or contact us via Webchat. Our Macmillan Information Nurse Specialists are here to offer support and help with your questions on 0808 808 00 00 every day 8 am-8 pm. You can also email us back and we aim to reply within two working days.

    Best Wishes

    Gemma

  • Thank you Gemma, this is a really reassuring read, I think I will reach out to my GP as the stress is getting to me a bit, I understand it might be nothing to worry about but I guess it's the unknown!
