Surgical staging

I’m glad to see that you have found and joined our Cervical Cancer Forum.  

I understand that you’ve now had your results after your surgery but thought it would still be useful for you to have this information about the grading and staging of cervical cancer.

Surgical staging is the routine process which happens during and immediately after your surgery.

Following surgery the tissue that has been removed is examined closely to check on things such as the size and location of the cancer, and the type of cells that are present.

It is a routine part of the diagnostic procedures for cancers which are surgically removed.  The final pathology report may either confirm the initial (clinical) staging or adjust the stage of the cancer.

This information obtained after surgery then gives your team further information about your cancer which will then be used as part of the planning for any further treatment that you may require.

Having a radical hysterectomy and they will test all parts and then stage after surgery.  Then they will decide if I am having second stage of treatment.  
so not totally completely answered but on a path.  I was informed today I had Poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma fast spreading high grade. Why surgery is quick.   Provisional stage till after surgery and testing.  Still very overwhelming.
