Looking gfor info on PICC lines
Hi Lesley49,
Thank you for getting in touch. My name is Penelope, and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists.
Whilst we are unable to recommend a specific product or supplier of a waterproof PICC line cover ourselves, I hope the following information is useful.
Some hospitals can recommend a specific product, which may be available on prescription. If this is not available to you, other people who have a PICC line can be a very useful source of information about products that work well and where to get them. This post from our online community about waterproof PICC line covers may be a good place to start. A local chemist, the hospital pharmacy or a Boots Macmillan information pharmacist may have further information on appropriate products and suppliers.
Some hospitals have an IV (Intravenous therapy) team who are involved in the care of many people with PICC lines. They may be able to suggest where to get a waterproof cover from. The hospital switchboard would be able to tell you if there is an IV team. Alternatively, if you have a specialist nurse, they may be able to answer your query or put you in touch with someone who can.
I hope that this information is helpful and that you are able to get a suitable product. If you would like any further information about the care of your PICC line then please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of the nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.
Best wishes
Penelope, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
