This is a Cancer Website

1 minute read time.

I have never posted a blog before, today I am because I am so outraged by what I have been reading in the blogs today. I am posting this in support of those of us who are sick to the back teeth of the actions of a thoughtless few who day after day continue to post Jokes (although most of them barely qualify as that they are so pathetic and crass). I am absolutely appalled at the behaviour of some people and their nastiness towards others here, and don't for a moment believe comments like 'get a life' when said in Cancer community, are 'innocent remarks' or acceptable, especially when they are directed at the terminally ill. When the Admins made a perfectly acceptable alternative place to post jokes, I had hoped that they would stay out the blogs, because they aren't the right place for them. As others have said, this isn't a joke website, there are countless of them out there on the internet if that's what you need. Just Google 'Jokes' its NOT rocket science. I will say it plain and straight too, I don't believe its a mistake when the Jokes are still posted in the blogs - the same people make the same mistake day after day after day and have done for weeks. People gently try to tell them that it is inappropriate, but they ignore it, they have NO interest in anyone else's needs but their own. I think its time the Admins took stronger action to enforce the ruling on Jokes in the blog section, as it is clearly being flouted by those with little or no consideration for others needs, or respect for their wishes. This is a Cancer Support Website - if cancer bothers you, or people discussing it troubles you, I suggest you are in the WRONG place.

Zoe, I have to say, yes I am BOTHERED by cancer.  I have been BOTHERED by it for the last six years.  People discussing it does not trouble me.  I take loads of time to give people support on here.  I also post jokes occasionally on the joke site.  I am not computer literate at all and get worried sick that I have actually posted in the right section in case people take offence.  I should not have to feel this way over a simple mistake, which I am sure Deirdre and Toni have done, in case I am attacked the way those two people have been.  I think all this has been blown out of proportion and I suggest if you find the jokes pathetic and crass you do not go to the joke page.  I think it is appalling the remarks aimed at two people who have not gone out of their way to upset anyone.

I feel I dare not say the word Joke in case Im told off like a naughty schoolchild!

I think the joke issue is been used as a scape goat . The real issue was someone and I dont know the person upsetting a very vulnerable person, surely that is the issue. There are ways and means of getting a message to some-one without upsetting them. That is my view and I also believe if a joke is put on the wrong place it ISNT intentional, if people stop putting jokes on it will be a step backwards as this is a COMMUNITY isnt it? Ruth

To its overwhelming credit this site represents a wide section of users with an equally diverse way of dealing with this bugger of a disease.   Not all blogs are to my taste and, equally, I've been on the receiving end of others who have misconstrued my own individual take on dealing with cancer.    I personally welcome the fact that posts don't deal exclusively with cancer issues but also reflect the individuals - whether through jokes, stories etc ...

So, from someone whose skin is not quite as thick as it needs to be, can I ask that we might cut one another a little more slack in such discussions.    Please.
