Work place adjustments

Less than one minute read time.

I have only recently found out  that cancer is regarded as a disability at work, so I have been assessed and had some adjustments made which are making life a bit easier.

My old hard seat has been replace with a memory foam one which has been tailor made for me!  Plus I now have more flexibility regarding breaks and performance targets.

So guys don't get stressed - get assessed.

Provisions have to be made for you, by law. The Disabled Discriminatory Act covers you for the rest of your life. I dont get any special adaptations etc. at work but they dont put me under the same pressure as the rest of the workforce. As long as I am genuinely 'having a go', nobody bothers me. It's OK. Obviously I am a good deal weaker and slower than before but I plod along proving that cancer victims still have value. i have cut my hours down to half of what I used to do having cashed in on a couple of pensions I had. May as well work less and enjoy life.

    Good luck Billy        Bill xx

    Hi Bill

Before I left work to go on long term sick, they were great i reduced my hours and like you they just left me to do what i wanted to do. My boss was amazing and still is although I am not signed off.

I read about the DDA with interest and didnt even realise it would apply to people like us.

When i eventually go back it will be part time only, i agree totally with your sentiment work less and enjoy life!

I hope you are doing ok

    Love

My husband wasnt so lucky.. he got sacked for ill health and capability. went to employment tribunal and the sacking was upheld.. This was even after his consultant, gp and esa doc had all said he was ok to go back to work.  Dont know how they got away with it but they did!

Hi celinep, I only get consideration from my employer because of the Disablrd Discriminatory Act which covers all cancer patients for the rest of their lives. Had it not been for the act I dont think I would have got any consideration and would have probably been got rid of under 'incapability'. i was signed fit for work, but only on light duties and reduced hours. I accepted a part time contract because I realised I couldn't manage a full time return. Had I gone back full time I would probably have been finished under the incapability law. I only have 3 years to go to 65, so I can manage on part time.
