    Hi Pete,

I have my free prescription entitlement, not that I use it for anything!  Once you get it, you can get sun protection cream on prescription and you can get extra compression stockings too once you get into yours!

Ann you're entitled to it if you have cancer or are suffering from the after effects of cancer treatment, in my case I have lymphoedema, you have pain and anxiety.  The scheme's only been running just over a year, so you haven't lost out on much.

Presciptions for cancer patients have been free since 1st April 2009. You should have been told by the hospital and given a form which stated that you were a cancer patient. The exemption lasts for five years and could be subject to renewal. I'm really sorry you were not told about this. Unfortunately I don't think you can claim retrospectively so get the exemtion sorted quickly.

All the best in your journey.

I didn't know about that either!  Mind you I'm in Isle of Man so it could be different but I shall definitely make enquiries.

    Thanks for heads up!

    Hi Peter,

You don't need to see your doctor for the form - just go to the receptionist who will give you a form, fill it in, give it back to the receptionist & they get the doctor to sign it & send it off to your local health authority. It takes about 2 weeks for it to be sent in the post to your home address. As Marsha pointed out you can get prescription suncream from your doctor using the card - and any other medication you may need (not just for cancer).

I only found this out from a small poster on the oncology waiting room wall.

    Take care, Angie
