On Saturday, it was found, purely by chance that my mum had low haemoglobin and needed a blood transfusion. I took her to the local hospital for blood matching but she needed to attend a hospital several miles away today for the transfusion.
I asked if an ambulance could be arranged to take her but apparently it can’t be arranged at weekend. There was no option but for me to take time off work for the trip, which I really don’t mind doing but it’s not me that’s the issue in that scenario.
I took her for the blood today at 9.30am and was told that I could return at 6pm to pick her up. I got a call from the hospital to tell me that there had been some difficulties delivering the blood and my mum wouldn’t be ready until 11pm tonight and could I pick her up then?
As an isolated case, I wouldn’t mind so much but on top of the other issues with my mum’s care this really takes the biscuit!
