why do people not understand

Less than one minute read time.

Today i had a meeting with HR and my matron AND  all i heared was blah blah blah blah.

They dont understand how stressful it can be trying to constrate at work when you know someone is dying.

Yes im going to have more mingraines and yes im going to have to take time off work with them.

They really dont understand how i feel and i try to keep them informed about lil mans condition but they dont want to know. The thing what gets me is when i first told them they said to me if i need any support all i have to do is ask, I WENT TO THEM FOR SUPPORT AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET BACK TO WORK.

Sorry this is a bit of a rant but i just needed to get it off my chest.

This type of thing does not normally get to me.

Jenni i do the same job as you and my deptment is a very stressful one 99% of the time. Then add this to the mix and what you get is a very stressed sunflower.

Hi Sunflower, my mum is in exactlty the same position, she is a NA with 25 years service. My dad was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and Secondary Lung Cancer last year. She's recently taken time off to be with him after his oncologist advised that she do so. After a recent meeting with the Matron and HR Person my mother was both emotionally and physically exhausted. I am a HR advisor and can offer the following advice:

Always take with you a representative who can offer support and speak on your behalf it needed.

I asked the Oncologist to write a letter to the Matron stating that whilst my Mum needed time off at the moment she would like to continue to work when my father is feeling well. This did help and enabled discussions around flexible working if this is something you/they could consider. You are also entitled to apply for a career break (again I do not know if this is something you could consider) this means they keep your job open for a set amount of time (in my company for up to 2years not sure in the NHS) I know that it is really tough to keep your mind on the job, and these meetings are supposed to be supportive .....it makes me so cross that they are adding to your already stressful life. I hope my comments are of some use.
