It's been a busy few weeks hence the lack of posts.
Hubby started first cycle of chemo for metastatic bowel cancer a little over two weeks ago. Having been through the new patient induction process we were extremely apprehensive about side effects and prepared for the worst. He had a portacath fitted under sedation which was painless but left him with a very bruised chest and the appearance of being about to give birth to an alien. However that rapidly settled down. It felt highly ironic when I dropped him off at the centre that he was feeling so well in himself and about to feel very unwell. Add to this that circumstances prevailed that we were due to move house 4 days later and spend a long planned holiday with family the following week.
I picked him up several hours later. He looked a little pale and slight stunned but otherwise ok, carrying a bottle of poison attached to the portacath in a cloth shoulder bag. This was removed 2 days later. In summer clothes he looked like a leftover hippie - think Denis Hopper!
so, all that day and several days after we awaited the dreaded side effects. But all that happened was a 'high' provoked by the vast quantity of steroids added to the mix to prevent sickness. (The dosage has been reduced for the second cycle which started yesterday.) He hasn't even been especially tired- particularly given the very busy couple of weeks we've had. Just hope it's working!
Tomorrow we move to our new forever home and care will be transferred to a unit closer to us. Hopefully that will go smoothly but otherwise we can return here when necessary. So altogether feeling much calmer and more positive than for a long while. Thank you for reading this
