Update

1 minute read time.

I went to see my colorectal surgeon who managed to reassure me that the pains I am experiencing are not due to a regrowth. Phew! At least for a while we’ll see what my scan shows.

He checked for hernias. Apparently when the large bowel is removed it creates a large space where the small bowel can now move into. And with the removal of my rectum and anus there’s a possibility of hernias’. Fascinating or what!

Anyway after a number of ‘coughs’ he said that he couldn’t find any evidence of hernia. Hooray!

The pain was probably due to the scar tissue from my proctolectomy interfering with nerves. He did mention that the only way to check and correct this was further surgery with the risk that exactly the same thing could happen again.

I declined the opportunity. From what I’ve read sciatica can come and go so we’ll see.

I’ve also had my CT scan. Another litre of aniseed flavoured muck (contrast). God I hate the stuff! Plus I was asked if I minded the trainee putting the cannula in. Why didn’t I just say no? Ouch! I’ve still got the bruise.

Scan results on the 28th November so not long to fret. I just have to remind myself what will be will be. I can’t change what happens and surely it will be better to find out any bad news sooner rather than later.

Still I hope it’s good news and I can start Christmas early. I’ll let you know.

  • Phew indeed! Glad to hear it

I saw an osteopath for my sciatica - caused by arthritis. Really helped. Tried acupuncture too but not so helpful with me as couldn' reach site of problem only masked the pain. Hip replacement resolved it in my case. Movement helps. Try swimming? Good luck with the scans. I always fretted. Xx

    Thanks Sarah,

I have to admit that moving around does help so I will try some swimming.

I've also started doing some yoga (don't laugh!) which eases it for a short while.

    Take care x
