Countdown to 'C' day

Less than one minute read time.

I've just returned from a very enjoyable weekend at a music festival. trying to do normal daft stuff. But what hit me was how tired I got and that's even before the chemo starts.

My chemo starts on Friday and I don't think I can read anymore about the side effects I may experience. From other posts I realise we're all very different and whether we get some, all or no side effects seems a bit of a lottery.

Friday can't come quick enough. After all the scans and tests and consultations Friday is the day when I start to fight back. Up til now these nasty tumours have been sitting around in my body getting bigger and making me feel dreadful.

Friday is the day I start getting well again. I may look and feel dreadful but it'll be worth it.

Mind you I did read a post saying that chemo doesn't have to be hell and if something is making me feel bad to say something. Doses can be changed, flow rates changed and other drugs can be given.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey Big Pete ... you've got exactly the right attitude there - after all the little steps you've taken,  Friday is a big step towards being better!

As you say chemo is different for everyone, but I do believe that attitude is everything. See chemo as just something that needs to be done and dont make a big deal of it.

I thankfully had hardly any side effects - except constant cold feet - and now I look back on my 6 months of  treatment, cant believe how quickly it went

Good Luck for Friday -- let us all know how you get on

    Pam x

Hi Pete, are you having the 5FU chemo on a pump that comes home with you. If you are (that's what I had), it's not that bad.

They'll give you anti-sickness meds ... take them, don't be brave and wait til you feel sick, but take them every day. That's what they told me, and after the first day I didn't feel queasy at all.

    Good luck.

Hi Pete,I'm on my second round of chemo of eight,I did suffer with sickness and general bowel problems,I read all about the side effects like you but you dont know what you get till you start. What I would say is tell your doctor what you suffered with next time and dont suffer in silence theres lots of medication to help you, particularly with the nausea.Just remember it doesnt last forever, and imagine what it's doing to the cancer.I have breast cancer with quite a large lump and after only 1 treatment I can hardly feel it,amazing!good luck, ask for help when you need it and dont suffer in silence!Vicky.x
