Our musical thread holding our 24 Feb Play-In concert together has been decided which will be Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
The symphony has one of the most well known openings to a symphony, but beyond the first movement, even bars, learning the entire symphony will be new to me (I should add, probably not to the rest of the orchestra who are likely to be more musically knowledgeable than I am).
Wikipedia isn't known for its factual reliability but it is useful to initiate some further interest surrounding a topic. From a Wikipedia search about the symphony itself, I found that the symphony was premiered in a four hour concert that consisted entirely of other Beethoven premiers conducted and performed by Beethoven himself.
Imagine what an event that would have been. The creation and set-up of this event must have been the ultimate networking opportunity of its day and would certainly gain people's interest. Those culturally aware would have inevitably been invited or keen to attend at least.
The link with the fundraising Play-In is its length in time. A four hour concert - 240minutes of live music. Although no premieres and unfortunately no Beethoven to attend our concert, we are organising a colourful event filled with all sorts of music from Haydn to Gloria Gaynor so far requested. For some it may be a performing debut, for others it may be re-visiting past times. We have the approach of organising a diverse programming for the event 24 Feb 2018 and the mind set of the more the merrier.
Our individual networks become ever more important to see the success of this event, by raising awareness, drawing in an audience and even facilitate practical and essential aspects of the concert such as the need to acquire a piano removal specialist. Without our networks, this event would be difficult to achieve. I've heard several times 'it's not what you know, but, who you know' that matters most and it's certainly a good opportunity to call on anyone to give a hand in whatever way they can.
We would be delighted for anyone even remotely interested in volunteering to take part or helping out with the day itself to get in contact via our website.
"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." Plato
