LOOKS LIKE CHEMO IS ON THE CARDS

1 minute read time.

I have my appointments next Tuesday, 22nd August, first one with the surgeon and second one with the radiologist. It looks like they'll be recommending chemotherapy. I'm over my knee-jerk reaction of NOOOOooooo! I'm looking at it this way, I've been a smoker for forty-five years, only recently quit and still having the odd one occasionally. I figure I may have cancer cells elsewhere and the chemotherapy will put a stop to them, so it's probably a good thing. I am terrified my hair will fall out but a friend on the Facebook Fight Bladder Cancer forum said that although hers thinned it did grow back the same. It seems many people on there did not lose hair at all. This has comforted me. I know nothing of the procedure. I'll be having cycles of three weeks, not sure how many, either three or six, can't remember. The nurse said two weeks on and one week off. Does this mean I have to go to the hospital every day for two weeks? I'll have to go by bus and am wondering if it will be ok as it is two buses there and back. I suppose it will have to be as I have no choice.

  • HiCaz. If you are having the same chemo as me (Gem/Cis) then this is not known for hair loss, although I have heard of some people having thinning. I didn't. As well as a weekly visit for chemo, you normally have to have bloods taken the previous day. I made an arrangement with the practice nurse at my my GPs instead of going to the hospital. Have you looked in to the possibility of hospital transport. I used the volunteer ambulance car service for my daily radiotherapy visits. Most hospital operate this and is free. Urology/oncology receptionists can arrange this. Best wishes.

Thanks Rily. I'm having IV chemo, not sure what actual meds tho. I'll look into hospital transport, good idea. Cheers.
