DIAGNOSIS & PROGNOSIS

1 minute read time.

Well it's really good news and bad news. The good news is there was only the one tumour which was completely removed during the op and it hasn't spread anywhere. So I won't die. The bad news is that it was malignant so it will come back. Stage 3, Grade 3, muscle invasive. So I have to have my bladder out. I'll be going for a stoma - the thought of self-catheterising does not appeal. It won't be for a few weeks and I'll be in hospital for about eight days. Loads of people in this group have had this done and now live normal lives. It's pretty crap to have to lose my bladder but loads better than dying.

The nurse said they'd like to give me six cycles of chemotherapy. I asked why, it's not spread and the bladder is coming out. She said because it's been shown to help in a percentage of cases. I asked what percentage. She said 5%! So, basically, it doesn't help for 95%... I don't think so.

Not for me. I have squamous differentiation which means poor results from chemo and radio therapy. I found this out when I translated my histology report into English. I just want the operation as soon as possible. We were not devastated due to the great support and information from fellow BCers on here. Thanks folks
