It is nearly 3 weeks since I had the TURBT operation. Ten days ago I received the promised phone call from a Macmillan Nurse giving me the results of the ultrasound and the histology of the tumour tissue that was removed in the operation. The ultrasound was done mainly to check that there were no growths in the kidneys or the ureters (the tube joining the kidneys to the bladder) and that the bladder was fully emptying. I'm pleased to say that the ultrasound found no problem with the kidneys and the bladder was working fine.
As regards the histology, the tumour cells were graded as Grade 2 which means the cells looked abnormal and grow more quickly than grade 1 but more slowly than grade 3, so generally regarded as low grade tumour cells. The staging of the growth was 'Ta' which means the tumour was only embedded in the lining of the bladder and not into the connective tissue and the muscle below that.
So really good news. No further treatment is needed at this point and I am now in the system for regular reviews by further cystoscopies, the first of which will be in early June. I shall have my fingers crossed then.
