Mar 18 Final(?) 3 stitches out

Less than one minute read time.

Can’t say I’m terribly impressed with the nurses at the hospital clinic;

Can’t say I’m terribly impressed with the nurses at the hospital clinic;

  • On the first visit I was assured all the stitches were out after 6 had been removed.
  • On the second visit, I was assured all the stitches were out after 7 more had been removed.
  • Today, at my local surgery, the practice nurse removed a further 3.  I knew there was one left, thought there might be two, asked the nurse to please check for any others and she found another in the area where stitches were removed the first time.  She said the knot had been cut but the suture was still there.

So, advice to readers having similar operations; ask every nurse who examines you or removes any stitches to check, re-check and tell you how many stitches they can count.  Mine were all bright blue nylon material so it seems ridiculous that nurses should have failed to see them.  In the scheme of all that has happened, this is trivial but if stitches are not removed it could lead to later infection.  Now I'm more confident they are all gone and expect to be forgetting all about them in a week or so.
