Lumpectomy

Less than one minute read time.

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy last month. How long does it take to be able to fully stretch your arm as I only have about 75% mobility after about a month

to be honest i found the more you stretch your arm the quicker it heals, i am a hairdresser and got back to work after 2 weeks.... i know this sounds quick, but i love my job, and all that stretching done my arm good, and although there was discomfort at first, i have never had any  problems in that area ....

    good luck

I have pretty much full mobility 5 weeks after mastectomy and lymph node clearance op. Could have returned to work after four. Liz is right the more you use it normally and do exercises the easier it will get.

    Good Luck

    Hi apple1997

I too had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy at the end of January.  The exercises they gave me I started straight away  and like Liz and Maxine said the more you do them the quicker you should gain full mobility.  I had a few problems with cording which are like pieces of string attached under your armpit and pulling which made it tight when I stretched, I spoke to my breast care nurse and she showed me how to massage the area which worked a treat.

Hope that helps, but if you not happy you should speak to your breast care nurse for advice.  Do you have swelling under your arm?

    Take care, gentle hug

    Thanks everyone.

Alex, cording is exactly what I have! No one has told me what to do about it. They feel like tight bits of string in my armpit and prevent me from fully stretching my arm. Unfortunately my breast care nurse is a two hour round trip away. Would it be possible for you to describe what I could do to help?

    Much appreciated.
