Mouth Ulcers

Less than one minute read time.

Morning to everyone,

Is there anyone out there who can reccommend something for mouth ulcers caused by radiotherapy???  Im 5 months + post treatment and my tongue now is the worst effected.    Tried lots of mouth washes, gels, bonjela, had loads from the hospital but to no avail, you dont realise how bad you feel when your tongue is ulcerated, i only have two one either side in the middle but god they are so sore and stop me from eating really!

Thank you in anticipation.

Love and Hugs

Jill

I managed to nip one in the bud using Corsodyl Daily toothpaste (pink and tastes of salt!) and Retardex mouth wash. May be worth a try if you haven't used them before. You've probably done this already, but have you had your mouth checked by a dentist? Even the slightest rough edge of a tooth could be causing the problem, or preventing it from healing. Hope you get it sorted out - it sounds really uncomfortable.

Just been reading back through your posts - you are amazing! What a lot you have been through!

I see that you have a dry mouth and am wondering if you may need artificial saliva preparations. If you could get your mouth more moist it would probably help the ulcers to clear.

Hi just a quick word - a senior dentist told me to keep my mouth (whilst on chemo) moist he suggested using chewing gum regularly thyroughout the day which stimulates saliver production - which is the mouth's natural protection -however I am not sure whether this would benefit you as Im not up to date on RT of the mouth - but he did say mouthwashes strip the mouth of its natural flora and he didnt like them used. I dont suppose it would break the bank to get some chewing gum and give it a try?

Please forgive me if this is not appropriate I am not an expert but wanted to pass on what I have been told. Best wishes Jools x

OuchJill, I suffered like you, soooo sore, I had to end up getting a script from the Doctor, for the life of me,I cannot remember What!

Jools mentioned chewing gum, it took me quite a while to find one to that I could actually bare as most of them,I found, were too minty/stingy!!

Wrigleys Extra Cool breeze, sugar free does the trick for me and helps for a wee while, mind you I

end up with annoying sticky lips, and I still have to sip water but so worth it!

    Take Care,
