Fluffy babies and naked men...

2 minute read time.

Apologies for missing last week’s bIog entry… I haven’t been slacking off- I have been a very busy bee!

Last week was full of training and although tiring, really interesting and beneficial. On Monday we had a media training session with two Macmillan staff who work in Comms. We covered a variety of things including press releases (although we have already completed and sent them pre-training..) and radio and television interviews. We had some practical tasks to do such as being the interview and the interviewee, which caused much amusement as we were all a little bit shy to begin with! After settling in to the training it proved to be a really interesting session, giving us a valuable insight into the media; what’s hot and what’s not? So the ‘hot’ things include babies and children, fluffy cute animals, and nudity. Apparently that sells. So we were thinking of finding a fluffy naked baby…. I’m sure that would make front page news! Interestingly enough, Emma and I had been booked to photograph a local rugby team in Hull that evening….naked. However, when we arrived, it turned out they had NO idea there was nudity involved! That made an interesting and OH so awkward conversation with them. After some gentle (and professional) persuasion, some of the team agreed to get their kit off (literally, their rugby kit), and don the green Macmillan pinny. Ooh matron! The rest of the team wore the signature Macmillan tees and we began snapping some pictures of them. Unfortunately for us, we got slightly more than we anticipated…. Boys will be boys I suppose and as soon as they were naked, felt the need to run about and act 5 years old- let’s just say nothing was left to the imagination…

Day 2 of the week left us frazzled in the office after a bit of a stressful, and what felt like an unproductive day. No more needs to be said there.

On Wednesday we had been booked in for some advanced social media training which was held in Shipley, so we drove there and worked from the Macmillan offices there in the morning. The afternoon training was held by Macmillan’s Social Media Manager who led a wonderful session- the room was full of a variety of lovely ladies including other Fundraising Managers across the country and another intern. Although full of plenty of jokes and giggles, I felt the session was well conducted and answered lots of our social media misconceptions. So now we should all be pros when it comes to all things twitter and facebook….. follow us on twitter or facebook to see!

That concludes last week’s madness…. Next week involves a bank holiday off and two admin days in preparation for the month count down to the coffee morning!
