Coffee, Concussion and a Camera...

4 minute read time.

I cannot believe another week has gone by!! And what a busy week it has been. Emma and I have been on the road Monday-Wednesday on a ‘photo tour’ of the North East! We have been all over with our coffee props-a large cardboard cut-out of a cake and coffee mug, giant inflatable coffee mugs, our famous green Macmillan t-shirts, Mac the Teddy Bear Mascot and more to take promotional pictures for our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at iconic locations! We have had a great week, met some lovely and interesting people, and have taken some great pictures!

Day 1
On Monday we went to Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes to take some pictures of people on the rides with our props. The day did not start well for two reasons. Firstly, it was chucking it down with rain and we got completely soaked before we had even begun! (Even though we had waterproof jackets on!) Secondly, Emma shut the car boot on my head. Yes, that really did happen, and yes, it DID hurt. A LOT! We nearly had to scrap the whole day to take me to hospital but luckily I was okay- a headache and a few tears later, we carried on! After traipsing through the puddles, we went back to Hull, via stopping at The Wellow pub, as they had a huge Macmillan banner outside! We met the manager who has been a Macmillan supporter for some time, and agreed to have some pictures for us- he even got Super Horse to join in! (see picture below).

We then went on to Hull where we met the Town Crier outside City Hall to have some pictures in the square. He was very supportive too; however he remained quiet and kept the bell mute during the photo shoot! After this and a quick bite to eat, we continued our journey to Honeysuckle Farm in Hornsea, via Skidby Windwill. The animals at the farm seemed very obliging... and nearly bit a hole in the mug!! We found a little maze here at the farm and thought it would be nice to take some shots in here, and even found a little slide which Emma willingly slid down, before crash landing face first into the mud. Super! What a clumsy pair we were on Monday!! This concluded day one of photos and we started preparing for the second day….

Day 2
A day of prayers, boats, stilt walkers and zip lines! We kicked off our day at the gorgeous Beverley Minster. I’m lucky enough to have sung here before, so any excuse to go back is brilliant! It’s a beautiful, peaceful building which was an ideal backdrop for some pictures. From here we went to the Humber Bridge to get some pictures of this famous ‘landmark’. A little brisk, and after nearly losing the mugs (and me!) we got some bright and breezy photos. We made our way under the bridge to meet the team at Humber Rescue who were great and got their lifeboat out for us to sit in! After a very bad ‘Titanic’ boat experience on holiday this year, I did vow I would never get in a boat again; however this opportunity was too good to miss! All aboard! We were then lucky enough to meet with a couple of local ladies who were stilt walkers! - Now that is something unique. We met them at the Marina in Hull and the weather was absolutely perfect, which meant the contrast of our green props and their yellow and gold costumes, went together perfectly with the beautiful boats behind them. I was over the moon with these pictures and hopefully you will like them too, so keep your eyes peeled…..
We were then able to visit the staff at Go Ape in Dalby Forest, where we were able to make use of their segways and zip line! After a mammoth hike up what felt like Mount Everest, we got to the end of the zip line and snapped some shots of one of the staff whizzing down with a Macmillan t-shirt and waving our big coffee mugs like mad- brilliant! Day 2 over and we were both pretty exhausted! One day of photos left!

Day 3
The final tour for photos commenced with a trip to the seaside. We started at Flamborough Lighthouse before heading to Filey to meet with RNLI for some pictures on the seafront. We then ventured off to Scarborough Sea Life Centre and made friends with the seals there! We made an attempt to get to Scarborough Castle, however a misunderstanding and lack of parking space within 5 miles of the place, left us reversing backwards down a very steep hill… don’t ask. A quick stop off at Eden Camp on the way home and we were done! Photo tour completed. We had a very enjoyable three days and have come away with some exciting new pictures which will be out and about soon, so do be sure to keep an eye out for them!

That concludes the exciting week we had- now time to put our feet up, get a cup of tea and prepare ourselves for what the next week holds for us…
