Its been over six weeks now since Mum had her operation and she is still in hospital. What I want to know is shouldnt she of started RT or chemo by now before the cancer starts to grow again. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

your mum will have an MDT team looking after her ask any of the nurses who is in charge of her MDT, they meet every week to discuss your mums case and you are entitled to ask who they are and what they are going to do. I only know this because I was invited as a patient to review cancer standards in Wales. Your mum and you deserve to know lol Keith
Hi Poppyissy, I don't know what the timescale is for starting chemo or rads, but I don't think they will start any treatment until your mum is properly healed from her surgery.
Have you asked any of the nurses or docs at the hospital or try contacting a macmillan nurse, who I am sure would be able to answer any queries you have.

Funny you should ask this. I read an article this morning in the Guardian written by someone who does this op, and she was saying that the op should completely remove the cancer, as it is a complete reconstruction job, but they often have radiotherapy afterwards. No mention of chemo. The last sentance says ' fortunatly the majority of patients are cured, reconstruct well and feel able to go back to their pre-diagnosis lives.
Hello Poppyissy, my cancer was different to that of your mums. I didn't start chemotherapy until I had recovered from my op. It was 3 months afterwards then they wanted me to have radiotherapy after that which I refused, As people have said ask your moms medical team or the nurse's. Take Care Love Julie X
