Can someone help please

The first thing is that consultants should not be rude especially in your situation. Make a complaint. Secondly don't ASK for a second opinion, DEMAND one. Is your mother's GP sympathetic? They might be a useful ally. You have enough on your plate with your mother's situation. Have you got family or friends to spread some of the load? Talk to Macmillans about how you feel and what can you do about it.

Hi Drew when I spoke with the consultant I asked him if he had made the decision that mu my had lung cancer on his own and he told me no there was a team of ten so I did not think a second opinion was needed, he told my Father at my Mothers bedside "Do you want the bad news your wife has 3/6 weeks to live, the rest of the ward gasped and all the family got geared up for her pending death.  Then to be told a day later by a jr doctor hang on it maybe a fungal infection well we are all just gob smaked!  I had already complained to Broomfield hospital about her treatment and now she is a Colchester  moved to the dying ward the lady in the room with her has already died, I just dont know what to do next..........

Hi Poppy, I so sorry to hear how your mum and your family have been treated. The consultant's bedside manner certainly leaves an awful lot to be desired. I wonder if he would like news like this of his own mother delivered in such a way!

I agree with Drew. I would ask for a second opinion, it your mother's right, then I would make an official complaint about the way your mum's case has been handled.

I got my diagnosis from a registrar at my bedside who thought that I already knew!

Everyone else in the ward heard. I complained to my consultant and the registrar couldn't apologise enough to me!

Word fail me!  My husband has had some shoddy treatment from the NHS, but this is totally out of order.  I guess the team ten referred to is the multidisclipinary team (MDT) that most consultants seem to hide behind.  

I think you should try to speak to the clinical director and ask exactly what is going on.

Then you need to make the strongest possible complaint about the consultant.

Sadlly most of  the NHS consultants we have come across in the last two years think they are God, and that they are doing patients a favour.
