Hi fellow MM's,

Is anyone on the Scancell trials for SCIB1? Afriend sent me the article in the Daily Mail recently which says trials start in 2010 in Manchester, Nottingham & Newcastle and I am wondering who knows what and what the criteria is to qualify. If anyone can enlighten me?  I suppose one criteria is to be in the relevant area - doubt I'll ever qualify living in Isle of Man, but I am not Manx & can always move:)

Thanks and good luck & my best wishes to everyone out there.

It's all a load of hot air and overhype I'm afraid CD

Cancer Research lists all current trials for melanoma, but is actually not as up to date as the American cancer trials site, which lists world wide studies

      Thanks Marsha,

Typical Daily Mail then!  Shouldn't expect anything else.

I contacted them (went on the Scancell website and got a phone number).  I left a message and they did contact me back.  Got all my details and passed them onto a Prof Poulam Patel at Nottingham.  He wrote to me about a week later and said they were starting trials.  Needed 9 people to start with, then a second trial would need 13 people.  All needed to have advanced melanoma where current option have not worked or have stopped working.

They were looking for people with a particular immune type (HLA TYPE - HLA-A2). Just a blood test to find out I think.  There will also be trials opening at Christies in Manchester and Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

I can give you the number of the research nurse if you think you qualify or want more information: Hanna Purves 01159691169 ext 57467.

So far I have not contacted them further as I am well at the moment, but I'm hanging onto the details for the future.  If someone doesn't do the trial, how will they ever find a cure and help us!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the information, Charley.  Good to know that more trials are opening up for us, now all we need is for one to be effective!
