lol Sarsfield........I am NOT getting my bald spot out (although did show after brain surgery pics & staples).

Holey Moley (no pun) that is one heck of a wound, I normally skip past any that say GRAPHIC, cos I have a delicate constitution (the only delicate thing about me) but I thought I'd be nosey on this occassion.

I had NO idea that melanoma leaves such HUGE wounds, I know Marsha has been doing her best to educate us all but somehow these photos are still shocking.

I wish you all the best in your recovery and beyond.

    Love & strength

Size is very important in melanoma, Sarsfield, it can literally mean the difference between potentially surviving or not.  Something less than 1mm in thickness is good, 4mm is quite honestly quite bad...get out a ruler, look how tiny the things are we are talking about.  Do you have any moles yourself?  Could you hazard a guess at how thick they are?

For those who come after us, and who also receive such disfiguring surgery, it's good that people like Peter and Tabitha can be up front and honest with us and share information and photos, so that we can see that things do, over time, improve.

We're all left with mementoes from cancer, even if we do "get better" some are just a bit more in your face than others.

Anyhoo, I'm getting off my soapbox now!

    Good luck to us all!

    Marsha xx

thanks for all your comments guys!!

Peter - the diameter and depth have remained the same throughout although I am informed by the team looking after me that it will fill out a bit over time.  The appearance has obviously changed since my op although I have no idea what it looked like previously as I couldnt look at it for the first 8 weeks but i imagine it was a 100 times worse than it looks now!!  No i didnt have a SNB.

Sarsfield - dare I say it - size is everything!!!

Jo27 - it looks really bad but i can honestly say I havent had too much pain with it at all just a lot of discomfort which i can live with if it means I am well!

Deb - yes it is a huge wound and cant say i am going to be showing it off too often!

Marsha - yes size is the key and i have been lucky with the thickness of mine - fingers crossed for the future x

Ooh yes that Looks Familiar Tabitha, - I can confirm that the "cavity" will continue to improve, - mine has, - and it is on my thigh, - and was very deep like yours.  I still have a cavity, - but the whole thing is much smaller, - even at my age,  (60's)- the body continues to do its job of healing.

    Careful you don;t knock it.
