A Mountain Left To Climb

1 minute read time.

Well Dad had his operation ,almost six hours under anesthetic, the wait and the worry we're terrible but eventually we were told he's out and in recovery, and there he stayed in the post op recovery place for 24 hours because they'd no beds on the high dependency ward or the specialist ent ward....but he received excellent care.

We didn't know what to expect, what would dad look like ,well he looked shit ,drain coming out of his neck, cannula in his foot and arm,big scar running down his face and ear ,but he was alive thank god...no ...not thank god ,thank the surgeon and the brilliant nurses, drs and anaesthetist....if god existed he'd have answered my prayers ,coz you cover all bases when the shit hits the fan,and saved my sister and helped dad ....

Dad could speak but was out of it so me and mum went home ,it had been a long day stuck in Leeds General waiting and worrying.

Still no bed the next day ,least not untill 8 at night but finally got onto the ent wards, and there he remains ,he's eating soft food and drinking, the drain is out ,he's walking to the loo ,but he can't be discharged due to oxygen levels varying all the time ,then he's to be on intravenous anti biotics ...poor Dads fed up ,which I guess is a good sign.

He just wants to go home ,we just want him well ....but this is the start of a long road ,with many hurdles ,and possibly no finish line ahead.....You climb a mountain one step at a time and Dad's just makeing his way to base camp.
